Detective Constable Tameca Thomas has taken on the Welfare portfolio with much gusto and appreciation for service.
This Director of Welfare who sees her life as providing service to all who needs it and says “Welfare cannot be taught,it is an affair of the heart”.
She first joined the Federation as a member of the Secretariat in May 2015. She has served the Mobile Reserve, Research Planning and Legal Department and the Narcotics Division which has spanned her twelve years of service. Since assuming the role of Director of Welfare,
Detective Constable Thomas has sought to identify persons on protracted sick leave who are in need of assistance. She is now in the process of creating a database to keep track of all rank and file members that are suffering from terminal and other illnesses.
She will be engaging the Jamaica Constabulary Force Human Resource Branch to identify persons who were injured on duty and continue to suffer without compensation. After conducting a welfare analysis, she has found that incorrect action by station commanders and sub-officers have led to many persons not accessing benefits due to them by the Government.
Her aim is to have six months intense sensitization on how to treat with members injured on duty as also education on members’ role and responsibility. Critical to this process will be the role of the various branch board members.
She hopes to engage the services of the Medical Services Branch and other stakeholders in this regard. A devote Christian from a very tender age she has built a foundation of Christian principles and is passionate about her spirituality. She takes education seriously and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Diploma in Physical Education.
She has an adorable son who motivates her to greatness. One of her greatest achievement in life is being given the opportunity to serve. She is not married and is fully occupied with work. She believes laughter trumps anger on any given day.
